Learn to turn your camera on it's side. If the subject that you are shooting is taller than it is wide, then use your camera to make it take up more of the frame. Turn your camera on it's side and take a vertical picture instead of the traditional horizontal one.
Move in closer to your subject. When you spot something you'd like to take a picture of, snap a shot. Then move in closer and take a better shot. If you have your subject fill the frame, it will help the viewer appreciate and understand your photo. When taking the picture, continue to move closer until you are sure your picture will represent the subject.
A good photography tip you should try is to to add an object to your photograph that will show the scale of another object. A big tree might not look that impressive by itself, but having a tiny person standing right next to it can make the tree look humongous.
Make yourself a photo copy master. Go ahead and try to imitate your favorite photos and photographers. Not only is imitation the highest form of flattery, it will teach you the techniques that were used to achieve the shots you love. Let your creative juices flow, and let your favorites inspire you.
Take different types of pictures so that they don't all look the same. Take some from a vertical position. This works very well if you are taking a picture of something tall like a staircase or a tree. It will change the look of your photos so other people will enjoy looking at them more.
Set your camera to the lowest native ISO it has. This means that your camera will produce a darker image, which can be edited in a photo program with less noise than a picture taken at a different ISO range. This gives you more flexibility to edit your pictures to your satisfaction.
Invest in a softbox or flash diffuser. Traditional, built-in camera flashes often result in very harsh photos, where the light colors are too bright, and the shadows too dark. If you cannot afford to purchase a softbox, which provides softer lighting, attach a diffuser to your flash. This disperses the light and softens the photo.
Composition is an important factor that every beginning photographer should consider and educate themselves on. Just as it is true with any other form of art, your composition is key to creating awesome images. After you have done your research into composition, practice putting it to use and after some time you will see that your images have improved greatly.
Taking beautiful photographs is something that a lot of people wish they could do. Funny thing is that you don't have to be a professional photographer in order to make that happen.
