Las Vegas or California Living?

Can anyone please give me their opinions on what it's like to live in Vegas or Cali, which is better & why? i currently live in CT & want to move in the fall. I know someone who's moving to Vegas & was thinking about staying w/ her until i can find a job & apartment. I'm a 28 yr old single girl & have lived in the same town all my life. I'm a buyer at a small company but it's not what i want to do for a living. I need a change. Cali seems like it would suit me better, but i don't know anyone there so getting started would be much more difficult. I like nightlife every so often but by no means go out partying all the time. I would also like to go to photography school & there's an Art Institute in both states. Any comments or suggestions from people who live or have lived in these places would be greatly appreciated. What is the weather/people/job market/recreational life, etc ... like?

I'm going to be honest. Neither one is a great deal with the economy the way it is. You cannot cut expenses enough to say it's an easy move. Both states are suffering from a lapsing housing market and high gas prices. Nevada is no income tax, but their government is over budget so it's impossible to get into anything except a policeman's or nurse's uniform until things lighten up.
