Photography Hot Lights
How do I get my external speedlight to work with my Nikon D80?
First of all, I am a complete camera novice, so please bear with me on this question. I have an Achiever 260AF Speedlight inherited from my father for my Nikon D80, and when I attach the 260AF to my camera's hot shoe, the light on the Speedlight that says "Ready" is on, but it does not flash when I take a picture with my camera (The only way to get the Speedlight to actually light up is to press the "Test" button). There is also a button labeled "Auto" on the Speedlight, yet it is a sedentary button, that cannot be pressed. Are there any settings I should take into consideration? I am really starting to get into photography, and this would greatly affect the quality of my shots. All answers are appreciated! 
Oh, also, sometimes my built-in pop-up flash tries to deploy when I press the trigger down half-way. Am I attaching the 260AF to the hot shoe is an unacceptable fashion?
not all aftermarket flashes will work with new cameras of the same make. What once worked with a older nikon may not work with newer nikons. That is because all the proprietary info is not shared from nikon to achiever. So that is why you should by nikon gear for nikon. They usually work for next generation equipment. but you pay a higher price.
