making a low budget photography studio?
i am wanting to make a photography studio to do portraits in. what are the things i need besides what i have. i have a nikon d40 and a sb-600 flash, also a good strong tripod. what else do i need and how can i get backdrops cheap, while a solid bed sheet be ok if is is white red or blue. or what can i use. i need things that are cheap if possible. is it possible to use just one flash or do i need to buy more and use them as slaves and have 1 master unit on the camera. also can you list prices if you know them and links would be helpfull also.

Backdrop using bad sheet ?? Oh yeee I remember that time... Yes this is ok but bad sheet is not big enough and you not gonna be able to take full person shot, portraits and 3/4 sure you can use bad sheet, but try to use those not very cheap, they need to be solid and ticker than paper, make sure you can't see thrue it 
... hat else you need... something to hold this backdrop... 2 lamp holders from Home Depot its good for start or you can build it yourself backdrop support using PVC pipes, easy and cheap... SB Flash... hmmm I would recommend you buy one of the cheap flash kits ( and remember stay away of continuous lighting kits it one big BS) cheap flash kit cost around $100-$150 and if you will decide to buy it buy with the "heads"... make sure you will be able to regulate flash power manual by using knob... in your kit you should also have umberellas and softboxes... you can also thin k about blends... the cheapest way to get it is: you going to CVS and buying "ambulance blanket" its kind of foil one side silver other gold and all you need to do is build some ring or something to mount this blanket on and that all you need to start... than you can think about different things.... go to flickr and do some research there is lots of ppl sharing ideas DIY in home photo studio... I've been in the same situation long time ago now I have full size photo studio with nice equipment but I gained huge knowledge using home cheap photo studio
