Has anyone read this book? Is it really basic material that he explains?
Absolutely! I have three of his books. The "... for Digital Photographers" series is very good at walking you step by step through various procedures for whatever version of photoshop for which the book is written. The good thing about it is that you do not only learn how to do a particular procedure, but the techniques learned can be applied to many other aspects of your photoshop needs.
VERY highly recommended!
