Im doing an essay on photography and need to add some theory, who is a good photography theorist to look at? (other than Roland Barthes)

Christian Metz, in the magazine Screen (white edition). Discusses semiotics of an image - can definitely be applied to photography (he wrote on cinema.)

Susan Sontag (yeah, yeah bring on those thumbs down) - On Photography.

You could also look into Stieglitz.
