Photography Wedding Contract
do i have a small claims case? wedding photography contract?
ok
so i had a client sign a contract for wedding photography and they paid the deposit. the day of the wedding, their wedding went longer than expected (4 hours) so i charged them for 2 instead of 4, bringing the balance to 450$.
they said they do not have the money, and they signed the contract.
do i have a case to take them to small claims court?
can i also ask for court cost on top of the 450$
i live in michigan but the wedding took place in ohio

they verbally agreed to the extra time, at this moment, i just want to collect the 300$ and dispose of any pictures taken after the time frame included in the 300$.
i know it may be cheaper than most weddings. the deposit was 300$, and they had a rough time and i had a open weekend so i thought i would "help" them out.
so what i want is, is there a way to collect the 300$ that they have signed for on the contract?

Did they ask you to stay for the full four hours? Did the contract call out for extra charges in the event that things take longer than planned?
If they didn't agree ahead of time to the additional charge, then they're not responsible for it. Essentially, you chose to stay the additional two hours.
That being said, since those additional two hours was on your nickle, they're not necessarily entitled to the pictures you took after the first two hours.
Keep in mind that Photography Work is largely done by word of mouth. If this couple has a bad experience with you, they're likely to let their friend know and anyone else they can beetch at will also know how much of a pain you were to work with.
I'd go back to them and agree to make the extra pictures available to them in exchange for being paid for the extra two hours (and isn't it a good thing you were flexible enough to stay longer). Also consider that you didn't have to do any driving or setting up or anything for these additional two hours.
Is your photography skill really worth $225/hour? How much did you charge for the first two hours (which would include travel and set up)?
