Canon AE-1 camera?

I saw a Canon AE-1 for $ 30 with Canon AE-1 original 1982 bill of sale ($ 209.97) Gemini Cool leather and web camera (Jake said this "Indiana Jones style) packed Canyon care kit covers the objective lens and the board of a glass lens extra flash User Manuals and various other goodies! I'm looking to get into film photography. Is this a good deal? Canon AE1 film is the camera-good?

I had one of those in the 1980s and was a great camera. There was an electronic shutter, but you only need a battery that lasted two meters shutter and exposure. I never fail and the battery lasted for years. For $ 30 I'd probably buy it, but what few things to check when buying this (or any other device used): Check the ASA / ISO dial-up yet. The camera is 27 years, which is probably older than you. Some things wear out. Should work, but if not this is not the end of the world. You can always use any ISO, and the figure shows the equivalent exposure. Verification meter works – Also can not be dead accurate, but you learn to compensate. You may have to buy a battery for this. Ask the provider to check the battery and if your death, get a new one. Make sure there is no dirt in the battery compartment. Open it and make sure it is proper. Set the dial the shutter speed to B and trigger shooting, and go on a journey with everyone out. Once again, the shutter speed can not be dead in the calibration, but what you are looking for a significant reduction the time the shutter remains open while you go through the setup. If you're doing this to inspect the shutter curtains – make sure they are clean and have no creases or wrinkles. A bent or curtain is a dealbreaker. Remove the lens, make sure items are clean and return the media (screw type as I recall, perhaps bayonet) are not bent. Check the owner of the camera does not flatten the place you fill in the lens. Open the lens at its widest part opening (2 or 2.8) and click at each stop. You should feel a physical "stop" in each issue and the diaphragm must be closed if the hole in the lens is made smaller. Open the lens back to 2 or 2.8 and keep the lens in a light source and look for bubbles. Do this for the other lenses too. The bubbles can cause points soft image – although I would still buy the camera and see if there is a problem. I Kodaks some old box my grandfather and some of them have bubbles, but does not shoot enough concerns and the cameras are about 100 years. Finally load a roll of film into the camera and make sure it is progressing well. My gut says all goes well – these units are built to last through the wars and more. They took me around the mines and took a beating. I gave it to a deserving student years ago, and as far as I know, the thing is still ongoing. And for $ 30, you can not hit with a stick. Take a look!
