How To Take Good Care Of Film And Digital Photographs
Photographs help keep memories fresh and alive. They serve as priceless mementos of life's several different milestones. They never fail to be great conversation pieces among family and friends.
Fortunately, technological advancements make storage and management of photographs very convenient. This is especially true when using digital cameras when taking snapshots. However, there are photographs taken before the advent of digital cameras. Those taken with conventional film cameras may require more work on your part for storage.
Many people still can't get over the charm exclusive to film photography. The old feel to it is something that modern digicams can not completely take the limelight from. No matter which you prefer, traditional film or digital, there are ways to make your photos live longer.
Let us start with proper storing of pictures taken via film photography. For sure if they're not in photo albums or frames, they're stored up in boxes. To prevent them from sticking to each other, place these boxes in cool and dry places. Also, it's a good idea to put each picture in plastic polyester films. Or you might want to separate them with paper lining that's acid free.
As for the negatives, let them stay in those plastic casings. Such will prevent them from sticking to each other, otherwise rendering them useless for processing. It's a great idea to scan printed photos, especially when their negatives no longer exist. This way, your digital copies can be easily printed when the need for it arises.
If you wish to place some of your photos in a scrapbook album, you might want to consider some helpful tips. If possible, use a digital copy or reproduction of the photos, and store the originals properly. When using the originals for your hobby, place the finished product in safe places. They should be stored in clean, cool and dark places.
When it comes to taking care of digital photos, you will find it easier than film counterparts. You got plenty of options where to store files of digital photos. It's advisable to burn them onto a CD or DVD. Having two copies will ensure a backup should one fail.
SD cards, USB flash drives and the likes must only serve as temporary storage. It's because they're susceptible to being corrupted. This is especially true when you use them frequently for other file types. As technology progresses, newer storage media will be introduced. Just remember to transfer your digital picture backups onto newer ones.
A picture of your son donning a giro ski helmet during a skiing tour at the Alps is priceless. And so is a picture of your daughter with a tutu on her first ballet recital. That's why keeping memories alive by taking good care of pictures is very essential.
