The invention of digital came was in on the end of 20^th century which revolutionized photography techniques. Since then digital camera slowly replaced the usage of film camera and by 21^st century most of the cameras are digital. The working of the digital camera popularly known as digicam or camera stores image using an electronic image sensor. A digital camera can record moving video with or without sound, still photographs or all of the above depending on the style purchased.

Most digital cameras use CCD’s, (charge-coupled devices) as the sensing element which takes the place of film. The flow of electric charge is controlled using the CCD sensor which is actually a shift register, the stored electric charge in the register can be further manipulated after conversion into digital values.

Digital cameras have a LCD screen that displays images immediately after taking them. The camera can store with a memory card can store up to thousands of photographs and videos. Digital cameras allow the user to delete an unwanted photo within the camera storage eliminating wasted print jobs and space. Image editing is possible within the camera by viewing the images in the screen of the camera, the in built software allows simple image processing such as crop and image-edit.

Many devices now incorporate digital cameras such as mobile phones, or camera phones, and PDAs. However, purchasing an actual digital camera will result in higher quality photographs.

Getting started in digital photography as a hobby can be as simple as trying what is affordable or as complicated as spending much time researching what all may be needed.
